FOR THE PEOPLE BESIDE US

Family, friends
& the other side.

Chronic pain doesn't happen in isolation. People around us see the changes, wonder what to do, and have their own lives and feelings too. This section is a place to understand each other a little better.

QUICK PATHS / 01

Where do you begin?

Whether someone just told you they have CRPS or you've watched them live with pain for years, it helps to have language and practical options that don't start with assumptions.

WHAT I WISH PEOPLE UNDERSTOOD

Sometimes I need
help. Sometimes
I need space.

Neither means I don't appreciate the people who care about me. Some days the useful thing is carrying something heavy, keeping the room quiet, or just asking what I need instead of assuming.

Supporting someone isn't the same as taking their independence away. Explore the hard-day guide →

THE OTHER SIDE OF PAIN / 02

Their story.
Their words.

The original Living Through the Pain website includes a thoughtful essay from Deborah about experiencing chronic pain from the family's side. We recovered that piece in the old-site backup. It is important enough not to paraphrase as though she has approved a new version.

Her original account, and any future contribution from other family members, will remain private until each author chooses what to share and approves the specific public copy. That is respect, not a delay to work around.

Publication boundary

Family contributors decide whether to be named, anonymous or private, and can revise or decline publication. We are not reproducing Deborah's recovered essay, personal family incidents or children's memories on this page without their specific permission.
